Afzal Chaudhry

Dr Afzal Chaudhry BSc(Hons) MA(Med Ed) MA(Cantab) PhD FBCS FHEA FRCP FAcadMEd LFEDIP.

In February 2023, Afzal took on the role of Executive Chief Clinical Information Officer for Epic Systems Corporation working across the UK and Europe and based in the UK Bristol office. Prior to this he was a Consultant Nephrologist and Transplant Physician at Cambridge University Hospitals for 20 years. For 12 of those years, he was the Chief Clinical Information Officer and then latterly also the Director of Digital and CIO, leading the multi-award winning eHospital programme – the first Epic site in the UK in 2014, subsequently becoming a HIMSS Stage 7 EMRAM hospital – the highest internationally recognised level of digital maturity (also the first in the UK for inpatient care). Research-wise Afzal led the clinical informatics programme in the Population and Quantitative Science theme of the Cambridge NIHR Biomedical Research Centre – informatics related research papers cover areas such as clinical data visualisations (Nephron Clin. Pract. 2011), autoimmune vasculitis (NEJM 2012), HLA matching at transplantation (Transplantation 2009, 2011, Hum. Immunol 2011, Cell Stem Cell 2012, Kidney Int. 2014) and acute kidney injury (BMC Nephrol. 2013).
